On July 9, an exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest masters of realistic landscape painting, Ivan Shishkin, opens at the National Art Gallery “Khazine” of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The collection of the artist's works, which is the third most important in Russia after the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum, returns to Kazan after being exhibited in Vladivostok.

The exhibition at Khazine will allow you to trace Shishkin's creative formation, demonstrating both early student works of the 1850s and 60s, and paintings of the mature period, up to the last year of the master's life.
The special value of the exhibition is its addition with herbariums of plants representing the flora of Tatarstan from the Zoological Museum and Herbarium named after E. A. Eversman of the KFU. This allows you to see how nature, praised by Shishkin in his paintings, was embodied in real plants presented in herbariums.

The wealth of the collection of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan
The State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan has a rich collection of works by Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin. His funds contain 38 paintings, 25 drawings and more than 350 sheets of printed graphics, which allows him to monographically present the artist's work from the 1850s to the 1890s.

Not only painting, but also graphics
Shishkin is known primarily as an outstanding landscape painter, but his contribution to Russian graphics is also significant. The museum's collection contains rare and unknown to the general public works of the early period of the artist's work: watercolor and pencil drawings, etchings on paper and silk, engravings with inscriptions of the author. In the 70-80-ies of the XIX century, Shishkin was recognized as the largest Russian engraver of his time.

Inspired by nature
For Shishkin, nature was a source of inspiration and knowledge. In search of interesting subjects for his paintings, he took walks with a sketchbook, carefully working out the smallest details – every blade of grass, leaf, pebble, branch.

What to see at the exhibition
The exhibition will feature 60 works, including 33 paintings, 27 graphics, as well as 46 plant samples provided by the Zoological Museum and Herbarium named after E. A. Eversman KFU.
The exhibition will be a real gift for art lovers and anyone interested in the work of the great Russian landscape painter.
And after visiting this unique exhibition, you can stay in the city at the 3A Kazan Hotel!
